Nobuyoshi Araki, born in Tokyo in 1940, is one of Japan's most influential and controversial photographers, known for his provocative, deeply personal, and transgressive work. A pioneer of contemporary Japanese photography, Araki explores themes such as love, desire, mortality, and the complexity of human relationships. After studying film and stage management at Chiba University, he began his career at the advertising agency Dentsu before dedicating himself fully to photography in 1965. His work captures the essence of Tokyo, from its neon-lit streets to intimate, everyday moments of life, blending documentary and fiction into a striking visual narrative.
